Tooth Decay in San Diego?

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry on August 25th, 2010 by admin

San Diego Teeth Whitening At Jeff Gray DDS, we restore decayed teeth to create smiles that are both healthy and beautiful. Recent advances in both techniques and materials have made the ‘impossible’ not only possible, but affordable for everyone in La Mesa and San Diego as well.

Dr. Jeff Gray has been restoring teeth since 1986. Ongoing training is essential for staying on the cutting edge of the cosmetic dentistry industry.

Decay is the most common dental problem and the second most common disease in the nation (number one is the common cold). If you have one or more teeth with decay, it’s time to take care of them.

Fillings, inlays, onlays and crowns are used to restore teeth for our San Diego cosmetic dental patients. Even the most basic procedure – filling a cavity – has evolved. There are several types of new materials available including porcelain and composite resin. Each has specific strengths and aesthetic considerations. La Mesa and San Diego patients who replace silver amalgam with tooth-colored fillings love getting the metal out of their smile.

Inlays and onlays are more extensive restorations. There are two types: direct or indirect. Direct inlays and onlays are made in your San Diego cosmetic dental office on the spot and applied in one visit. Indirect inlays and onlays are fabricated in a San Diego dental lab. They usually require a second visit but the results are well worth the extra trip.

When a San Diego client has a tooth that cannot be restored with an inlay or an onlay, a natural-looking dental crown is the answer. At Jeff Gray DDS, we create crowns that blend in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. Let us show you some photos of patients who have received smile makeovers – you will not see any “Chiclet” crowns that stick out like a sore thumb. In fact, you won’t be able to tell which of our dental clients have crowns.

Jeff Gray DDS is located at 8555 Fletcher Parkway #102, La Mesa, CA. Dr. Jeff Gray is currently accepting new patients. Call (619) 337-7700 to schedule an aesthetic dental consultation

Let’s Talk About Your San Diego Smile

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry on July 14th, 2010 by admin

I’m Dr. Jeff Gray. My office is located at 8555 Fletcher Parkway #102, La Mesa, CA 91942. One of the best things about being a San Diego area dentist is interacting with my patients. During initial dental consultations, I listen carefully to my patient’s short and long term dental goals.

I enjoy discussing options and developing effective treatment plans tailored specifically to each person. Some of my clients desire a total smile makeover. I explain in detail the treatments available including teeth whitening, dental veneers, orthodontia, crown restoration, and dental implants.

Let’s Talk About Your Smile If a client is nervous about undergoing treatment, we discuss oral conscious sedation. Oral conscious sedation, sometimes called oral sedation dentistry, is a great option for anxious patients. Dental visits do not have to be painful!

After the treatment has been completed, it is very gratifying for me to see my patient’s reaction to their new smile.

I never get tired of creating dramatic smile transformations for the best clients in California!

If you have been considering a smile makeover, let’s talk about your smile. Call Jeff Gray DDS to schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation.

Your San Diego Cosmetic Dentist

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry on July 7th, 2010 by admin

Affordable San Diego Cosmetic DentistryRelationships of all kinds are important. Especially your relationship with your San Diego dentist.

Did your last San Diego cosmetic dentist cause you fear, guilt and pain? Perhaps you quit seeing your dentist because  you hated going and he/she loved making you wait. Was your previous San Diego cosmetic dentist insensitive to your concerns? Was he/she a poor communicator? Perhaps you have simply moved into the La Mesa or San Diego area and need a new provider.

I am Dr. Jeff Gray of Jeff Gray DDS in La Mesa. I understand that many patients are nervous (okay – downright terrified) about dental visits. I also realize that no client wants to be given a shameful lecture about their oral health.

Though I have years of experience and extensive training on all the latest cosmetic dental procedures, there are some things that can’t be learned in dental school; how to build trusting relationships with your patients and create a relaxed atmosphere in your dental practice. I understand that San Diego dental clients can feel very vulnerable as they lie in the chair with their mouth open. My staff and I maintain a friendly environment in our pleasant office. We manage our practice carefully to minimize waiting and provide ample time for each valued patient.

Effective communication is a priority. I make sure my San Diego cosmetic dentistry patients understand their restorative and cosmetic options and answer all their questions before we develop a treatment plan.

If you are currently seeking a considerate, experienced, and sensitive La Mesa or San Diego dentist, I look forward to meeting you. My phone number is (619) 337-7700. You can learn more about me at http://www.SmileSanDiego.com/.

Dental Crowns at Jeff Gray DDS in La Mesa

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Crowns on June 23rd, 2010 by admin

Dental Crowns at Marcos Ortega DDS in San DiegoDental crowns have been used in dentistry for over 2000 years. There is evidence that the Etruscans experimented with crowns on teeth using ivory and bone as early as 700 B.C. By 200 A.D., they began using gold crowns to construct artificial teeth. Ancient Egyptians fashioned tooth replacements out of seashells and then hammered them into their gums (Oral sedation, anyone?).

Porcelain crowns were first used in the 1800s. With the refining of metal casting methods in the 1900s, crown dentistry advanced significantly.

Today, crowns are strong, comfortable and are made to match your surrounding teeth.

Dental crowns (also called caps) cover the entire visible portion of the tooth and are cemented in place. Crowns are used to strengthen teeth that have been worn down or weakened by decay or injury. Crowns are also used to restore the original shape of a tooth or solely to improve the appearance of a tooth.

The most common types of crowns are:

  • All-porcelain (ceramic)
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal
  • Gold

The material used is determined by several factors. If you suspect you need a crown, want to replace an old crown, or want to learn about other cosmetic dentistry procedures, call Dr. Jeff Gray DDS at (619) 337-7700. Jeff Gray DDS-Sedation & Cosmetic Dentistry is located at 8555 Fletcher Parkway #102, La Mesa, CA 91942. We have been serving clients in the San Diego area for several years. We can recommend the best tooth restoration or cosmetic dentistry option for you.

Cavity Fighting Chewing Gum For Our La Mesa Patients?

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Health, General Dentistry on June 3rd, 2010 by admin

San Diego Oral Dentistry I’m Dr. Jeff Gray DDS of Jeff Gray DDS in La Mesa. My San Diego dentistry clients often ask me if chewing xylitol gum is an effective substitute for tooth brushing and regular La Mesa dental exams.

Before I answer that question, let me tell you a little bit about xylitol:

Xylitol is a natural sweetener that was first discovered in birch tree bark but is also found in many fruits and vegetables. Unlike most other sweeteners (natural or synthetic), xylitol is actually good for your teeth. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that xylitol prevents the growth of the bacteria that initiates decay. It also reduces plaque and strengthens tooth enamel.

Xylitol has other benefits, as well. Because it is low on the glycemic index, many of my San Diego diabetic patients enjoy it as a healthy alternative to sugar. If my Santee cosmetic dentistry patients complain about frequent dry mouth, I recommend Xylitol gum or mints to stimulate saliva production without promoting tooth decay.

Now, back to the golden question. Is xylitol gum just as effective as brushing your teeth and seeing your San Diego family dentist regularly? Absolutely not! If you cannot brush your teeth after a meal, chewing xylitol gum for five or ten minutes is probably a good idea. However, you should still brush your teeth thoroughly (with a soft brush) after meals and get twice-yearly exams and oral dentistry deep cleanings at your La Mesa dentistry clinic.

At Jeff Gray DDS, our goal is to keep your smile healthy and beautiful for life by preventing dental problems before they start. If you postpone Alpine dental visits until you feel pain, you risk losing teeth and most certainly will require more extensive treatment than if the problem was caught earlier. Is it time for a dental exam? Call us at (619) 337-7700 to book an appointment. Our friendly and professional is waiting to take care of all your dental needs.

Celebrity Smiles in La Mesa

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry, Porcelain Veneers, Teeth Whitening on May 18th, 2010 by admin

Veneers in La Mesa How do celebrities obtain brilliant white smiles always ready for the red carpet or a close-up? Do they avoid coffee? Not likely. Every star-watching magazine is full of pictures of famous people holding Starbucks cups. Do they avoid tobacco? Some probably do, but many actors and fashion models with dazzling white smiles are smokers.

Very few people (famous and non-famous alike) with perfect teeth were born with them. (…Sure, no one is born with teeth, but you know what I mean.) Celebrities have perfect smiles because they have undergone cosmetic dentistry.

Guess what? You can also have a smile like a supermodel or television news anchor because Dr. Jeff Gray at Jeff Gray DDS, Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry has as much experience and training in advanced cosmetic dentistry as any Hollywood cosmetic dentist.

Dr. Gray has been providing smile makeovers for La Mesa and Santee dental clients since 1986. Tooth whitening is the most affordable cosmetic dentistry procedure in San Diego. Tooth bleaching quickly perks up your teeth and makes you feel like smiling all the time!

Porcelain veneers are used often in Alpine cosmetic dental offices because they correct myriad problems. Veneers remedy misshapen teeth, cracks and chips, and discolored teeth. Teeth that have been worn down extensively can also be repaired with veneers. Preparing a tooth for a porcelain veneer is minimally invasive. The latest veneers do not require the removal of healthy enamel. Another plus: veneers are usually less expensive than complete crowns!

Tooth bleaching and veneers are just two of the many cosmetic dental procedures performed at Jeff Gray DDS. Schedule a La Mesa cosmetic dental consultation today by calling (619) 337-7700. At our office, you will always receive VIP treatment, without the annoying paparazzi!

We look forward to helping you achieve a celebrity smile.

(Note that the celebrities pictured above are not affiliated with our site; they just have great smiles!)

Hate Your Dentures?

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Implants on May 3rd, 2010 by admin

San Diego Dentistry Implant Perhaps you have heard or seen the San Diego dental industry’s advertising about dental implants. Most La Mesa dentists claim that dental implant dentures can change your life. Does this sound like hype? Exaggeration?

Let’s look at the facts about dental implant anchored dentures in San Diego:

Chewing: An oral implant denture can restore up to 95 percent of normal chewing function. How important is chewing? Can you chew easily with your current full or partial denture? Can you bite apples? When was the last time you ate a raw carrot?

Fit: Implant anchored dentures stay in place. An implant denture doesn’t slide around in your mouth and cause sores. Alpine implant denture wearers who exercise regularly especially appreciate this benefit.

Appearance: How does your smile look? Can you smile confidently? How many Santee denture wearers love their smile? Implant anchored dentures look like natural teeth. They don’t move when you smile, eat, talk, bike, swim, dance, golf, ski; you get the idea.

Bone health: When teeth are extracted, bone recession can occur over time (in fact, this happens in almost every case). Because a titanium implant is an artificial ‘tooth root’ inserted into your jaw bone, your bone has a better chance of staying healthy. If there are no other adverse conditions present, your jaw bone should remain strong and dense, just as if the original tooth root were there.

If you hate your dentures and live in Alpine or Santee, why don’t you come in for a consultation about dental implants and mini-implants? We can discuss all the particulars including procedure specifics, healing time and dental implant cost. Then you can decide for yourself if Implant dentures will, as promised, change your life.

Advanced Dentistry in La Mesa

Posted in Cosmetic Dentistry, Sedation Dentistry on April 26th, 2010 by admin

The world of dentistry continues to advance at a rapid pace. If you have visited a La Mesa dentist in the past few years, you have probably noticed the things that make your visit more comfortable, such as the ability to watch TV or listen to music while receiving treatment. Many San Diego dentistry patients welcome oral conscious sedation to reduce or eliminate pain.

What may not be as obvious are the advances in techniques, tools and materials. Top La Mesa dentists now use digital computer imaging which is safer than traditional x-rays. Dental technicians can store, retrieve and transmit digital images much easier than was possible with traditional x-ray film.

Advanced Dentistry in La Mesa

The use of lasers has also changed the face of dentistry. Laser surgery requires less anesthesia, minimizes swelling, and protects surrounding tissue. San Diego family dentists use lasers for detecting and treating cavities and dental technicians use them for the curing of restorative materials.

and dental technicians use them for the curing of restorative materials.

Another exciting development in cosmetic dentistry is the CAD-CAM technology that allows Santee cosmetic dentists to perform restorations in a single visit. The types of procedures that can be completed in one visit include crowns, fillings, inlays, onlays and veneers.

If you need a thorough exam or want to improve your smile with cosmetic dentistry, Jeff Gray DDS at (619) 337-7700 to schedule a consultation. During your consultation, you can see before and after photos of some of our smile makeover clients. We would love to help you achieve the smile you have always wanted, and we have the tools, experience and technology to make that happen.
