Help Me San Diego; I'm Afraid Of The Dentist!

Sedation Dentistry San Diego If you are afraid of your San Diego cosmetic dentist, you are not alone. At Jeff Gray DDS, we encounter many nervous first-time San Diego dental patients. How do we calm their fears, provide a comfortable dental environment and earn lifelong clients?

1) We carefully explain the findings of the initial dental examination and thoroughly outline any recommended procedures. The consultation also includes a discussion about pain control including oral conscious sedation dentistry medications. This allows our San Diego dentistry clients to make informed decisions about their oral health and necessary dental procedures.

2) Dr. Jeff Gray practices gentle, pain-free dentistry. San Diego cosmetic dentistry treatment will not begin until you are numb. Keep in mind, however, that every dentistry patient reacts to numbing agents and sedation medications differently.

Speak up quickly if you start to feel discomfort. We will pause treatment, administer additional analgesic and wait until it takes effect. At Jeff Gray DDS, we never rush cosmetic dental or restorative procedures.

We will do our best to make you comfortable, whether you are receiving dental veneers, undergoing crown-lengthening treatment, having your teeth whitened, or replacing your old silver fillings.

3) We provide many in-office amenities at Jeff Gray DDS which help our dental patients focus on something pleasant during cosmetic dental treatment. Not every San Diego dental patient chooses sedation dentistry. Sometimes chemical-free diversions such as listening to your favorite music provide a diversion while letting you remain clear-headed.

At Jeff Gray DDS, we understand dental anxiety and will help you overcome it. We are located at 8555 Fletcher Pkwy Ste 102 in La Mesa, 91942.

Tooth Knocked Out? Call Us ASAP!

Cosmetic Dentistry San Diego

It may sound like a catastrophe to many San Diego area dental patients, but having a tooth knocked out doesn’t always mean you’ll need cosmetic dentistry to fix your smile. If you can keep a cool head and remember a few simple instructions, chances are your tooth can be salvaged.

The most important things for San Diego residents to do if they’ve had a tooth knocked out is to find the tooth, handle it carefully and keep it in the best condition possible so their San Diego area dentist can reinsert it properly.

Do not handle the tooth by the root, be careful to only touch the crown. It’s okay to gently rinse the tooth in water, but don’t scrub it or remove any tissue fragments from the tooth.

If it is possible, the best place for the tooth to be held is back in the socket (placed there gently, of course). Holding the tooth between the lip and gum or under the tongue is good too, just be careful not to swallow. If neither of these is an option, place the tooth in a cup of milk.

Next, you’ll want to get to your San Diego area dentist as soon as possible. Most teeth that can be reinserted by a dentist within an hour can be saved.

I’m Dr. Jeff Gray a general and cosmetic dentist in San Diego. If you are looking for quality dental care in the San Diego area, I hope you’ll give us a call at 619-337-7700. We offer sedation dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign, complete smile makeovers, and dental implants.

Call us at 619-337-7700 immediately if you have a dental problem such as the one discussed above.

Dental Sealants – Another Tool For Cavity Prevention In San Diego

Cosmetic Dentist San Diego

Dental patients in San Diego and the surrounding areas know that regular brushing and flossing are essential for optimal oral health. However, the bristles of your toothbrush can’t reach into every small groove and depression in your teeth, especially the really bumpy back teeth. That’s where sealants can be invaluable.

Dental sealants are a plastic material that is applied by your San Diego cosmetic dentist. This material is a resin that bonds to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, mainly in the pits and fissures. The plastic acts as a shield against acids and plaque so that the tooth enamel is protected.

Many San Diego residents might think that sealants are only for children and teenagers, but they can actually be beneficial for adults as well. If you are wondering if sealants are right for you, speak with your San Diego dentist. This simple dental procedure can dramatically improve your oral health by protecting the surfaces that are particularly vulnerable to decay.

Many dental insurance providers include dental sealants as a covered benefit, so check with your provider if you are considering them. If you don’t have dental insurance, ask us about financing options. Because they can prevent cavities, dental sealants can save you money in the long run.

I’m Dr. Jeff Gray, a San Diego dentist and I want to thank you for visiting my dental blog. At our office we serve the San Diego area by offering:

  • sedation dentistry
  • cosmetic dentistry
  • Invisalign
  • dental implants
  • porcelain veneers
  • If you have any questions about these or other cosmetic and laser dentistry procedures or would like to schedule an appointment, call us today at 619-337-7700.  Our friendly and professional staff would be happy to assist you.

Seeking A Relationship In San Diego?

Fresh Breath San Diego Are you one of the many San Diego singles looking for a significant other? Perhaps you recently broke off a dysfunctional partnership and are determined to make a better choice this time around. I’m not talking about a relationship with a girlfriend, boyfriend, or spouse – I’m talking about something equally important – your relationship with your San Diego dentist. (…I admit my obvious bias.)

Why did you break up with your last dentist? Did he/she cause you fear, guilt and pain? Perhaps you quit seeing your dentist because it was a love-hate relationship – you hated going and he/she loved making you wait. Was your previous San Diego cosmetic dentist insensitive to your concerns? Was he/she a poor communicator? Perhaps you have simply moved into the San Diego area and need a new provider.

I am Dr. Jeff Gray of Jeff Gray DDS in San Diego. I understand that many patients are nervous (okay – downright terrified) about dental visits. I also realize that no client wants to be given a shameful lecture about their oral health.

Though I have years of experience and extensive training on all the latest cosmetic dental procedures (including teeth whitening and dental veneers), there are some things that can’t be learned in dental school; how to build trusting relationships with your patients and create a relaxed atmosphere in your dental practice. I understand that San Diego dental clients can feel very vulnerable as they lie in the chair with their mouth open. My staff and I maintain a friendly environment in our pleasant office. We manage our practice carefully to minimize waiting and provide ample time for each valued patient.

Effective communication is a priority. I make sure my San Diego dentistry patients understand their fresh breath and cosmetic options and answer all their questions before we develop a treatment plan.

If you are currently seeking a considerate, experienced, and sensitive San Diego dentist, I look forward to meeting you. My phone number is 619-337-7700. You can learn more about me at

    Have Your Dessert, San Diego

    Cosmetic Dentistry San Diego

Your San Diego cosmetic dentist knows that it’s too much to ask that you never indulge in sugary treats, but they will tell you that eating sweets at certain times is better for your teeth than others. For instance, when you eat a full meal, your saliva production increases. This helps to rinse food particles from your mouth as well as neutralize the acids that cause plaque.

This is great news for dessert lovers in the San Diego area because it means that sweets consumed after meals have a lower risk to your teeth because your mouth is already in optimum cleansing mode.

San Diego dentists agree that sweets after meals are preferable to sweets eaten between meals as snacks.

Also remember that what sweets you eat can be as important as when you eat them. San Diego dentists are constantly reminding their dental patients that sticky candies stay on your teeth for a long time, even when your saliva is flowing. And hard candies that you suck for an extended time give bacteria a perfect environment to create enamel-weakening acids.

My name is Dr. Jeff Gray, and I am a cosmetic and sedation dentist for the San Diego area. My practice is Jeff Gray DDS located at 8555 Fletcher Pkwy Ste 102, La Mesa CA.

Our friendly and professional staff is here to help you have the healthiest and most beautiful smile possible. We provide general and cosmetic dentistry procedures such as tooth whitening, veneers, invisible braces, inlays and onlays.

We are currently accepting new patients, call today to book an appointment!

San Diego Wants Silver Screen Smiles

    Cosmetic Dentistry San Diego

With the constant media coverage of celebrities, many San Diego dental patients are interested in having a smile like the stars. With an experienced cosmetic dentist and the right smile makeover procedures, anyone can have a smile they want to show off.

Many smile makeovers include teeth whitening. There are a variety of ways this can be done. Most San Diego area drugstores sell over-the-counter whitening strips and gels. Your San Diego dentist can recommend an effective one, or he or she may offer in-office teeth bleaching. This is a quick way to see whiter teeth in less than an hour.

For missing teeth, most San Diego cosmetic dentists will recommend a dental implant. Because a dental implant is anchored into the jawbone, it looks and feels just like a natural tooth. A dental implant prevents jawbone recession and the shifting of adjacent teeth.

Porcelain veneers are especially popular in the San Diego area. They cover the front of the teeth and are custom-made for each individual patient. These are useful for San Diego patients who have broken or chipped teeth, stained teeth, or gaps between teeth that they would like to hide.

Enamel shaping, bonding, and braces are other successful treatments that can be used to help your teeth look their best.

I’m Dr. Jeff Gray, trusted San Diego dentist. If you are looking for quality dental care in the San Diego area, I hope you’ll give us a call at 619-337-7700.

We offer cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry, dental implants, and porcelain veneers.

Keeping Dental Patients Comfortable in La Mesa

    Sedation Dentistry La Mesa

Pain isn’t fun. Your La Mesa dentist knows this, and that is why the dental team at Jeff Gray DDS have made patient comfort a top priority. In conjunction with creating a relaxing environment, your dentist has various medications that can reduce and even eliminate pain associated with different dental procedures to give you a more enjoyable experience.

Some of the most common pain-relieving medications used in La Mesa cosmetic dentist offices and around the country are topical anesthetics. These are swabbed directly onto mouth tissue so they only numb the very surface layers. Topical anesthetics can reduce the pain of mouth sores, or they can be applied to prepare the mouth for an injection.

Local anesthetics are injected into mouth tissue (usually the gums) to block the nerve sensations to specific areas of the mouth. La Mesa area dentists numb the mouth in this way before filling cavities, treating gum disease, or before certain cosmetic dentistry procedures.

More involved dental procedures may necessitate the need for nitrous oxide or even general anesthesia. Ask us about sedation dentistry and oral conscious sedation.

It is very common for your dentist to recommend an over the counter analgesic to relieve pain after a dental visit. These medications include aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen.

Because your La Mesa cosmetic dentist will most likely use a pain reliever during the dental visit or prescribe something for you to take after the treatment, make sure you jot down a complete list of medications you are taking, including herbal supplements, before each appointment.

I’m Dr. Jeff Gray and I want La Mesa residents to be informed about their dental care, especially as it pertains to pain relief during dental treatment. If you are in the La Mesa area and are looking for quality dental care, please contact my office today at 619-337-7700. Our friendly and professional staff would be happy to talk to you about sedation dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, and the other services we offer.

    Soft, Medium, or Buzz Lightyear?

Affordable Dentistry in La Mesa At Jeff Gray DDS, cosmetic dentist Dr. Jeff Gray is often asked how to choose the most basic tool of oral hygiene, the toothbrush. Picking a toothbrush in San Diego can be as difficult as choosing a paint color, and there seems to be just as many choices.

If you have visited the dental section of your local San Diego grocery store or Walmart lately, you know what I am talking about. There are brushes with bristles of varying lengths, brushes that massage your gums, and brushes that change color when they are used up. (If I had to rate them purely on their fun factor, I would choose the Spiderman brush.)

Some toothbrush manufacturers claim their brushes freshen your breath or remove stains from your teeth. How do you choose?

One key factor is the firmness of the bristles. Hard bristles may be more effective for cleaning burnt steak off a grill or hard water deposits off a shower floor. However, this does not hold true for your teeth. Medium and firm brushes can damage your gums. Soft and extra-soft bristles are plenty stiff enough to clean plague, food particles, and surface stains from your teeth. Soft bristles also offer more flexibility for hard-to-reach nooks and crannies.

After having cosmetic dental care or oral surgery in San Diego, especially anything involving soft tissue grafts, make sure you use an extra-soft brush and be careful!

When buying a toothbrush for a child in San Diego, make sure the brush feels comfortable in their hand. If the size and angle feels awkward, the child will be less likely to use it long enough to clean all areas of the mouth. Children do not necessarily need a child-sized tooth brush. Some San Diego kids can manage an adult size brush better than a short, narrow child size brush. If you are unsure, ask your dentist Dr. Jeff Gray DDS.

What about the electric types and water-shooters? Some San Diego folks like the feeling of vibrating bristles or a mini-squirt gun blasting away at the plaque. San Diego people with arthritis or other movement-inhibiting conditions can benefit from powered brushes which take some strain off hands and arm muscles.

Is your toothbrush doing the job? Schedule an exam with your San Diego dentist at Jeff Gray DDS.

At Jeff Gray DDS, our friendly and professional dental hygienists instruct our San Diego patients on proper brushing and flossing. If you haven’t experienced a dental deep cleaning at Jeff Gray DDS, you don’t know how clean your teeth and gums can feel. We also provide fresh breath treatment for patients who suffer from halitosis.

Schedule a thorough dental cleaning today by calling Jeff Gray DDS at 619-337-7700. An outstanding feature of Jeff Gray DDS is total team work to serve you in a state-of-the-art facility. We offer sedation dentistry and a full spectrum of restorative dental procedures.
