A Fresh Start After Losing A Tooth In La Mesa

La Mesa Permanent Tooth Replacement Are you one of the many La Mesa men and women who has had a tooth extracted? If the tooth had been bothering you, it may have been a relief. Unless, of course, the tooth was in the front of your mouth and now the gaping hole shows every time you smile. Ignoring it is impossible because your tongue can’t leave it alone.

Once the tooth has been pulled, you have many decisions to make. Can I afford a dental bridge? Do I want to damage two healthy teeth to anchor the bridge? Should I go with a partial denture? What about bone loss?

What if you could have a fresh start? What if you could have a permanent, natural looking tooth replacement that would restore your smile and retain the healthy bone and gum tissue around the tooth root?

With a dental implant from Jeff Gray DDS, you can. A dental implant is a permanent replacement for all parts of the tooth. A dental implant consists of three parts: the titanium post, the abutment, and the restoration.

The Titanium Post
—Inserted directly into the jaw bone
—Extremely strong
—Titanium is unique in that it bonds with living bone tissue (also used in knee and hip replacement surgery)

The Abutment
—Can be made of gold, porcelain or titanium
—Permanently attached to the post (it will not slip and slide like dentures)

The Restoration (Dental Crown)
—Usually made of porcelain fused to a metal alloy (PFM)
—Is made to match the color of surrounding teeth
—Will look as good or better than the tooth it replaced

Dental implant surgery is not an experimental treatment. The materials and techniques have been tested and refined for several decades. It has been performed by La Mesa dentists and prosthodontists for over twenty years. To schedule a dental implant consultation, call 619-337-7700.

Same Day Smile Makeovers At Jeff Gray DDS In La Mesa

Same Day Smile Makeovers At Jeff Gray DDS In La Mesa Have you ever wished your La Mesa cosmetic dentist could glue new pearly white covers on your existing teeth as easy as you paint a wall in your house? Guess what? With porcelain veneers, it’s possible. Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin tooth-shaped fronts that are permanently bonded to your natural teeth.

Unlike a dental crown procedure, your La Mesa dentist does not need to remove tooth structure to place the restoration. If the teeth in question have decay, come see us immediately.

Call 619-337-7700 to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

At Jeff Gray DDS in La Mesa, veneers are used alone and in combination with other cosmetic dental procedures to create complete smile makeovers. Because they can correct cosmetic tooth misalignment in one visit, veneers are sometimes referred to as ‘instant orthodontics’.

Do dental veneers look like natural teeth?
Skilled La Mesa cosmetic dental lab artists create porcelain veneers with the color, reflective properties, and translucency of natural teeth: perfect natural teeth, that is. In addition, porcelain veneers can be made in any size or shape.

Are veneers at Jeff Gray DDS
strong?
Porcelain veneers are fabricated out of extremely durable material. If you have questions about whether a veneer or dental crown is the best choice for you, talk to Dr. Jeff Gray. Dr. Gray will consider the size and condition of the tooth and its position in the mouth.

How long do veneers last?
Some Jeff Gray DDS smile makeover clients have veneers they received over 15 years ago. (And they still look terrific!) If properly cared for, veneers can last as long as dental crowns.

Are porcelain veneers affordable in La Mesa
?
The cost of cosmetic dental veneers at Jeff Gray DDS is competitive with other premium cosmetic dental practices in the La Mesa area. We use what we believe is the top dental lab to create our client’s veneers and a significant portion of the cost of veneers goes to the lab. Porcelain veneers are often less expensive in La Mesa than crowns and clear braces. For questions about the cost of porcelain veneers, call our office at 619-337-7700.

New Protein For San Diego Dental Implant Patients

Santee Dental Implants Hundreds of San Diego dental implant recipients have replaced missing teeth with jaw-bone anchored tooth implants. Unlike a dental bridge, a tooth implant consists of a titanium post inserted into the jaw bone. The bone meshes with the post to create a strong base for the natural-looking prosthetic tooth and dental crown that attaches to the post.

Dental implants are usually the ideal restoration for San Diego people who want to replace missing teeth. There is a problem, however, if the jaw bone is too thin at the implant site.

When a tooth is extracted, the bone loses the blood circulation at the former site of the root. Consequently, bone recession often occurs. If the recession is extensive, there is not enough bone to hold the dental implant post.

Bone grafting can augment the bone at the implant site and provide the bone density necessary for a successful implant. This is usually effective, but it does require time for the new bone to generate. A new discovery may provide a quicker solution for regenerating bone.

Researchers at the Georgia Health Sciences University College of Dental Medicine have identified a protein that quickly stimulates the production of new bone. The research team, led by Dr. Ulf M.E. Wikesjo, implanted bone morphogenetic protein in test subjects and discovered that “more new bone formed within four weeks than with conventional bone grafting.”

This protein will require extensive testing before it is available for San Diego dental implant patients. However, I am pleased at the prospect of an additional method for making dental implants possible for my San Diego cosmetic dentistry clients with missing teeth and jaw bone recession.

Have A Large Cavity In Your Tooth?

La Mesa Cosmetic Dentistry When Dr. Jeff Gray of Jeff Gray DDS in San Diego repairs a tooth that has decay or damage, the procedure chosen often depends on the location of the problem. (We’re talking tooth-specific locale here; it doesn’t matter whether you live in San Diego, Alpine, or Santee.) If there is a chip, crack or cavity on the biting surface of a tooth, an onlay or inlay is often used to restore the tooth.

Inlays and onlays are a type of tooth restoration used successfully at Jeff Gray DDS. They are usually bigger than a conventional filling yet smaller than a complete dental crown. An inlay is used to fill an area inside the cusp tips or bumps of a tooth. An onlay covers an area that includes more than one cusp.

At Jeff Gray DDS, the inlays and onlays we place for our San Diego clients are indistinguishable from their natural teeth. Dr. Jeff Gray has the finely-honed eye for detail and complete mastery of dental aesthetics to create an exact match.

Jeff Gray DDS inlays and onlays:

  • Are stain resistant
  • Do not cause tooth sensitivity
  • Are beautifully matched to natural teeth
  • When bonded to the tooth, they strengthen the tooth and prevent further decay or damage
