Let Your Kids Fight The Evil Cavity-Causing Sorceress

children

Your child’s smartphone or tablet could be another essential tool to help them establish effective dental hygiene habits. A mobile app called Toothsavers was introduced in 2014 by a coalition of organizations dedicated to public health.

In the exciting Toothsavers game (designed for ages 3 – 6) children try to save characters from an evil sorceress who inflicts cavities and other detrimental mouth miseries on residents of her kingdom. Players use their fingers to ‘clean’ the characters’ teeth in the game. The game is designed to encourage children to brush correctly for two minutes, two times a day and create awareness in young children of the importance of proper oral hygiene.

Toothsavers was created by the American Dental Association and Ad Council in partnership with 35 other organizations.

“Mobile technology plays a major role in influencing young people’s behavior and is a great fit for this campaign. We’re thrilled to release our first mobile game, which represents our ongoing efforts to use technology to promote health, education and well-being. We look forward to using this app to help kids maintain healthy oral health habits, and have fun while doing it!Peggy Conlon, president and CEO of the Ad Council. 1

The game allows kids to time and track their toothbrushing and even triggers alerts to remind users when it’s time to brush. As part of the game, users watch fun, two-minute instructional videos while they brush their teeth in the real world. A new character is unlocked each day a player watches a video while brushing morning and night. The free app can be downloaded at the App Store, Google Play, and at http://2min2x.org/.

In addition to proper toothbrushing, establishing a relationship with a trusted family dentist is essential for keeping kid’s smiles healthy. If you are looking for a friendly and gentle family dentist in the La Mesa area, we invite you to schedule a consultation. We can advise you on dental issues relevant to our youngest patients including thumb-sucking, sealants, mouth protection for children’s sports, orthodontia, and fluoride supplementation.

Full Mouth Reconstruction in San Diego

Cosmetic Dentistry San Diego Cosmetic dental techniques and materials have advanced to a point where total and near-total mouth reconstruction is possible right here in the San Diego area.

Unlike conventional removable dentures, extensive mouth reconstruction involves strong, functional and aesthetically pleasing teeth with roots permanently anchored into the jaw bone.

You have probably heard around San Diego about dental implants; the tooth replacement option that is, in most cases, the best possible replacement for a missing tooth. Dental implants have been used in the San Diego area for many years to replace one or two missing teeth. However, they can also provide a structure for crowns, bridges, and anchored dentures that replace nearly every tooth in the mouth!

Every smile makeover patient requires a somewhat unique combination of cosmetic dental procedures, but let’s talk about a hypothetical case involving several restorations:

‘Linda’ was a 52 year-old San Diego patient with a mouthful of problems. She was missing most of her back teeth on both her upper and lower arch. Four of her front teeth were chipped and her gums had eroded revealing the metal bases of two old crowns.

To restore a beautiful, strong and youthful-looking smile, she would receive dental implants to anchor partial dentures for her upper and lower back teeth. After soft tissue grafts, her front teeth would receive a combination of porcelain crowns and veneers.

The result? A stunning smile, renewed confidence and no more slipping dentures!

Attention La Mesa: Replace Your Dental Bridge Before You Lose Teeth

Attention La Mesa Replace Your Dental Bridge Before You Lose TeethHello La Mesa visitors, welcome to Jeff Gray DDS. Let’s talk about a tooth replacement option common in La Mesa: dental bridges.

While dental bridges have restored smiles for thousands of La Mesa area cosmetic dentistry patients, they are not problem free. Many people with dental bridges find it impossible to keep the small areas around the bridge clean. This is not surprising because it is hard to get toothbrush bristles or dental floss under the bridge.

Of course bacteria has no trouble moving in and taking over without the La Mesa dental patient even knowing it. When the decay reaches the roots of the surrounding teeth, it is not only painful, the person is at risk of losing those teeth also.

That is one reason why a dental implant is superior to a dental bridge. Most La Mesa people with missing teeth are great candidates for dental implants.

A dental implant looks just like the beautiful tooth restoration on a high-quality dental bridge, but the important part is what you don’t see.

A dental implant is screwed directly into the jaw bone. It is not attached to teeth like the dental bridges traditionally used in La Mesa. In a way, a dental implant is a more conservative tooth replacement because it leaves the adjacent teeth intact. The bone and gum tissue mesh permanently with the titanium post that serves as the replacement tooth root.

Dental implants do not have the same decay risk as the teeth that anchor dental bridges. Of course patients with dental implants need to brush and floss, but cleaning a dental implant is usually no more difficult than cleaning a normal tooth.

Dental implants have a far better track record in La Mesa than dental bridges. With proper care, a dental implant can last a lifetime for smile-smart folks.

If you currently have a dental bridge, you might consider permanently replacing it with a dental implant before the adjacent teeth are threatened with decay.

At Jeff Gray DDS, dental implants can replace one or more teeth and can also serve as anchors for full or partial dentures. No more embarrassing slipping!

Live Better With Dental Implants in La Mesa

La Mesa Implant Dentistry Ill-fitting dentures cause more problems for denture wearers than they solve. If you live with loose dentures, you probably regard them as a necessary evil. Though they certainly look better than a toothless mouth, in practical terms they leave much to be desired because they affect two essential activities: eating and talking.

Unfortunately, many frustrated denture wearers have quit dining in restaurants or engaging in social activities because they are afraid their dentures will slip.

Dental implant procedures at Jeff Gray DDS in La Mesa are allowing former denture patients to re-engage in life.

Consider the advantages of implant anchored dentures:

  • They are stable because the implant is anchored in the bone.
  • Your denture is fixed, it will not move around in your mouth.
  • They prevent bone loss that typically occurs when teeth are removed.
  • They eliminate the necessity of regular denture relines.
  • They do not irritate gums.
  • No denture adhesive is required.

Our tooth implant clients who have replaced their traditional dentures with implant overdentures enthusiastically say that the dental implant cost was more than worth it.

Do you want to eat normally again? What is the value of maintaining your facial shape? Can you put a price on confidence?
