Seeking A Relationship In San Diego?

Fresh Breath San Diego Are you one of the many San Diego singles looking for a significant other? Perhaps you recently broke off a dysfunctional partnership and are determined to make a better choice this time around. I’m not talking about a relationship with a girlfriend, boyfriend, or spouse – I’m talking about something equally important – your relationship with your San Diego dentist. (…I admit my obvious bias.)

Why did you break up with your last dentist? Did he/she cause you fear, guilt and pain? Perhaps you quit seeing your dentist because it was a love-hate relationship – you hated going and he/she loved making you wait. Was your previous San Diego cosmetic dentist insensitive to your concerns? Was he/she a poor communicator? Perhaps you have simply moved into the San Diego area and need a new provider.

I am Dr. Jeff Gray of Jeff Gray DDS in San Diego. I understand that many patients are nervous (okay – downright terrified) about dental visits. I also realize that no client wants to be given a shameful lecture about their oral health.

Though I have years of experience and extensive training on all the latest cosmetic dental procedures (including teeth whitening and dental veneers), there are some things that can’t be learned in dental school; how to build trusting relationships with your patients and create a relaxed atmosphere in your dental practice. I understand that San Diego dental clients can feel very vulnerable as they lie in the chair with their mouth open. My staff and I maintain a friendly environment in our pleasant office. We manage our practice carefully to minimize waiting and provide ample time for each valued patient.

Effective communication is a priority. I make sure my San Diego dentistry patients understand their fresh breath and cosmetic options and answer all their questions before we develop a treatment plan.

If you are currently seeking a considerate, experienced, and sensitive San Diego dentist, I look forward to meeting you. My phone number is 619-717-8560. You can learn more about me at https://www.smilesandiego.com/meet-dr-jeff-gray/.

Soft, Medium, or Buzz Lightyear?

Affordable Dentistry in La Mesa At Jeff Gray DDS, cosmetic dentist Dr. Jeff Gray is often asked how to choose the most basic tool of oral hygiene, the toothbrush. Picking a toothbrush in San Diego can be as difficult as choosing a paint color, and there seems to be just as many choices.

If you have visited the dental section of your local San Diego grocery store or Walmart lately, you know what I am talking about. There are brushes with bristles of varying lengths, brushes that massage your gums, and brushes that change color when they are used up. (If I had to rate them purely on their fun factor, I would choose the Spiderman brush.)

Some toothbrush manufacturers claim their brushes freshen your breath or remove stains from your teeth. How do you choose?

One key factor is the firmness of the bristles. Hard bristles may be more effective for cleaning burnt steak off a grill or hard water deposits off a shower floor. However, this does not hold true for your teeth. Medium and firm brushes can damage your gums. Soft and extra-soft bristles are plenty stiff enough to clean plague, food particles, and surface stains from your teeth. Soft bristles also offer more flexibility for hard-to-reach nooks and crannies.

After having cosmetic dental care or oral surgery in San Diego, especially anything involving soft tissue grafts, make sure you use an extra-soft brush and be careful!

When buying a toothbrush for a child in San Diego, make sure the brush feels comfortable in their hand. If the size and angle feels awkward, the child will be less likely to use it long enough to clean all areas of the mouth. Children do not necessarily need a child-sized tooth brush. Some San Diego kids can manage an adult size brush better than a short, narrow child size brush. If you are unsure, ask your dentist Dr. Jeff Gray DDS.

What about the electric types and water-shooters? Some San Diego folks like the feeling of vibrating bristles or a mini-squirt gun blasting away at the plaque. San Diego people with arthritis or other movement-inhibiting conditions can benefit from powered brushes which take some strain off hands and arm muscles.

Bad Breath Treatment In San Diego

Bad Breath Treatment In San Diego Do you suspect that you have bad breath? I’m Dr. Jeff Gray of Jeff Gray DDS, a full-service dental office in San Diego. I help our dental patients diagnose and overcome this unpleasant and potentially embarrassing condition.

Halitosis is caused by the bacteria that live on and around your teeth, gums and tongue. Breath mints and mouthwashes do not cure bad breath, they only mask the symptoms. Proper oral hygiene can cure many cases of bad breath. However, in some cases, bad breath is caused by more serious conditions. Sinus and tonsil infections, acid reflux, ulcers, diabetes, hypoglycemia, kidney malfunction, and eating disorders are just some of the health issues that can cause bad breath.

If you have bad breath, the first thing to do is make sure you are cleaning your teeth, gums and tongue thoroughly. This does not mean you should brush as long and forcefully as possible. Brushing too vigorously can harm gums and contribute to gum recession. At Jeff Gray DDS in San Diego, we help patients of all ages learn safe and effective brushing, flossing and tongue cleaning methods to aid in fresh breath.

And don’t forget regular professional cleanings. Our friendly dental hygienist is trained in the latest and most effective deep-cleaning procedures. Your teeth will feel so good after being cleaned professionally!

Do Whitestrips Work?

Do Whitestrips Work in La Mesa? If you have visited the toothpaste aisle at your San Diego Wal-Mart, you have probably noticed dozens of products that claim to whiten your teeth. A few years ago, the only over-the-counter tooth whitening options in San Diego were whitening toothpastes and Crest Whitestrips. Now there is a wide variety of products at every drugstore counter in the San Diego area.

Whitening Rinses
San Diego whitening rinses are similar to mouthwashes. They kill bacteria, offer fresh breath and may help remove plaque. Whitening rinses, however, contain tooth-whitening ingredients not found in mouthwashes. Manufacturers advise taking a mouthful of the rinse and letting it slosh around on your teeth for one minute twice a day. Though this method is simple, many users never notice a lightening of their teeth. This is probably because the rinse does not touch your teeth long enough to truly whiten them.

Whitening Strips
The whitening strips you can buy in San Diego grocery stores have a couple of drawbacks. Though they contain a bleaching agent, it is much less potent than those used in San Diego dental offices. Another problem is that they do not whiten between teeth because the strips only touch the front surface. Though it is possible to remove stains, it can take months to see any whitening. By that point, you have probably spent more money than you would have if you’d have chosen the professional system at your San Diego laser tooth whitening dental clinic.

Teeth Whitening Gels
Whitening gels are painted onto teeth with a small brush. One problem with whitening gels is that they only stick to dry teeth. If any saliva gets on the teeth during treatment, the gel is more likely to slide off.

If you are serious about dramatically whitening your teeth, the safest, quickest, and most affordable system is at your San Diego cosmetic dental office.

Tooth Brushing Basics For Healthy Smiles In La Mesa

La Mesa Teeth Bleaching Why should everyone in La Mesa brush at least twice a day? Let’s take a look at why this is so important.

Brushing and flossing is the best way to prevent decay.

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste and carefully flossing removes the food from our teeth and inhibits the build up of plaque. If we let food stay on our teeth, the starches in the food will mix with the plaque. This nasty mixture forms an acid which immediately starts drilling into the enamel to form cavities. Brushing can’t get all the spaces between your teeth, so you’ve got to floss also.

Brushing and flossing keeps gums and bone healthy.

If you let gum disease go untreated, you can lose teeth that are cavity-free!

The progression of gum disease (gingivitis) goes like this:

  1. Plaque build-up irritates gums.
  2. Irritated gums pull away from teeth.
  3. Bacteria multiplies in the spaces between the gum and tooth.
  4. The bone holding the tooth is eaten by the bacteria.
  5. Say goodbye to the tooth.

The good news is that gingivitis can be reversed if detected early.

Call Jeff Gray DDS at 619-717-8560 to schedule a gum disease  and fresh breath evaluation at our office in La Mesa.  We also provide cosmetic dentistry and sedation dentistry for our patients.
