Hiccups In Your Dental Routine

Alpine cosmetic dental veneers

The most common times people stop to brush their teeth are morning and night – either before or after breakfast, after dinner, or at bedtime. Common concerns that come with this routine involve hiccups in the schedule, from family life, shift work or exhaustion.

Sometimes after dinner isn’t super cut and dried. Many San Diego families face irregular weeknight routines. As the school year progresses, some have games to attend, band concerts, play practice, youth groups or other weeknight commitments. An irregular schedule often disrupts regular dental maintenance.

Many Santee workers have daily commutes or shift work to battle with. Due to the changing landscape of La Mesa’s job market and the greater variety in shift schedules we see patients who are adjusting to irregularities in sleep patterns. This leads to exhaustion and often sleep takes priority over consistent brushing – either morning or night.

The most important time to be sure to brush is after eating sugar or carb-intensive foods. These foods kickstart bacteria growth on the teeth without vigilant attention.

Highly acidic foods weaken the enamel, so it is best to swish with water immediately after consuming acidic foods to lessen the acid. Then brush about 30 minutes later when the mouth is less acidic. The fluoride in toothpaste helps remineralize the enamel.

Dr. Jeff Gray’s hygiene staff at Jeff Gray DDS – Sedation & Cosmetic Dentistry has been assisting California families since 1986 to prevent hiccups in their dental routines. See how we demonstrate professional and educated instruction at http://www.SmileSanDiego.com/.

Jeff Gray DDS – Sedation & Cosmetic Dentistry provides more than just cosmetic dentistry or sedation dentistry. In addition to teeth whitening, dentures, Invisalign, and laser dentistry there is hygiene education, teeth whitening and cleanings to be discussed. Sure, the cost of cosmetic dentistry, dental veneers, invisalign braces and dental bridges can all seem confusing. The key is to stay on top of the important habits that you can control. We can help you make sense of the other stuff.

Regular checkups are important for catching decay, infection or other troubles early so let us make an appointment for your next preventative visit and keep those hiccups from causing permanent damage. Call us at 619-337-7700  to schedule!

Whitening For 3 Types Of Tooth Stains In La Mesa

Whitening For 3 Types Of Tooth Stains In La Mesa

Hello La Mesa! If your smile could use some brightening, what are you waiting for? Professional teeth whitening and teeth bleaching are the easiest ways Alpine residents can dramatically improve their appearance.

It is important to realize that not every San Diego smile responds the same to teeth bleaching. The degree of whiteness attained and the treatment time necessary depends on the type of stains being treated.

1. Surface or extrinsic stains are the most accessible and easiest to remove. They are caused by the usual suspects: coffee, tea, wine, cola, smoking and the natural aging process.

2. Intrinsic stains can be lightened but it may take a bit longer. These stains form from the inside out but are visible through the enamel. They can be caused by trauma, tetracycline antibiotics, infection, or excessive fluoride use in childhood before the enamel is fully formed.

3. Combination: Some La Mesa dental patients have both extrinsic and intrinsic staining. As we age, our teeth change – regardless of how well we take care of them. Two things that work against us is that our enamel thins while the dentin underneath fades and yellows. Again, the extrinsic stains on the enamel are the quickest to lighten, but ongoing treatment with a peroxide-based penetrating whitener can lighten the deeper discoloration.

It is best to trust fast teeth whitening treatment to the care of an experienced dentist such as Jeff Gray of Jeff Gray DDS in La Mesa. Jeff Gray and the experienced team of dental professionals at Jeff Gray DDS have been brightening smiles since 1986. We also offer Invisalign, porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, laser dentistry and dentures.

Upgrade your face value by brightening your smile!

Take 5: Straight Talk About La Mesa, California Braces

invisible braces La Mesa

Having braces in La Mesa uncovers unique concerns.

Hello, I’m Dr. Jeff Gray at Jeff Gray DDS. I support healthy oral hygiene and regular, consistent check-ups. Hygiene for braces is a bit different.

Here are five essential concerns to keep in mind with braces:

1. Be Careful What You Eat

Sweets and extra food stuck in hard-to-notice spaces may lead to plaque and yellowing around the appliances in your mouth. Avoid sweets, juices, sodas, anything that will stain your teeth. Also, sticky things like gum and caramel can break the equipment in your mouth.

2. Consider a Mouthguard

Sports are the center of life for many La Mesa families. We’re an active community. I love that. A quality mouthguard provides important protection for both your teeth and braces.

3. Take Time for Gum Health
Maintaining healthy gums requires deliberate brushing and flossing. In the past, two minutes of quality brushing was acceptable. Braces are trickier to clean. What’s another minute to make sure every nook and cranny is taken care of?

4. Check the Mirrors
Humans are exceptional at noticing flaws. Check your smile often in a mirror to keep your braces free of obvious food particles.

5. Smile with Confidence
At first, people will notice the change in your smile. But if you’re relaxed about your new braces, soon your friends will simply look past them without even noticing.

Thanks for visiting my blog today, hope it helps.

I’ve been treating patients in San Diego, Jamul, Santee and beyond since 1986. You name it – dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry – we do it.

I’ve got the expertise, experience, tools, and team you need to maintain a healthy smile. I deal daily with laser dentistry, porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, dentures, and Invisalign. The cost of a smile makeover, cosmetic dentistry, and celebrity-caliber teeth may be more affordable than you think.

Meet with me today and we can go over the possibilities and simple options to meet your needs. Can’t wait to see you!

It’s Not Too Late To Get Them Straight

It's Not Too Late To Get Them Straight

Are you an adult in Alpine with misaligned teeth? Do you regret not having orthodontic treatment when you were a teen? It’s not too late to straighten your teeth – and there are more types of braces available than ever before.

Perhaps you are not familiar with the latest types of braces. Here is a quick rundown of the most common types used in Alpine, Jamul and Santee cosmetic dental practices.

If you don’t want the whole world to know you are wearing braces, ‘behind the teeth’ or lingual braces may be a good option. So-called ‘invisible braces’ work great for many La Mesa men and women of all ages. Some types of braces are offered in ceramic, which are also less visible than metal braces. These are often called ‘clear braces.’

Invisalign, Damon, and iBraces, are some of the trade names of proprietary orthodontic systems used in the California dental community.

Once the orthodontia patient has completed treatment, he or she needs to wear a retainer to keep those pretty teeth in line. The traditional Hawley retainer consists of a metal wire that surrounds the teeth and holds them in place. The metal wire is attached to a molded acrylic form that fits snugly in either the upper or lower part of the mouth.

Clear retainers are also popular with San Diego orthodontists and their patients. They fit the teeth like a transparent glove without the need for hardware. Some Alpine patients believe clear retainers are more comfortable than other types.

If you want more beautiful teeth, come into Jeff Gray DDS in La Mesa and discuss your goals with Jeff Gray, DDS. Gray will examine your teeth and recommend the most effective system for you.

Jeff Gray DDS is a full-service general, family, and cosmetic dental practice. We have been exceeding expectations since 1986. Ask us about Invisalign, porcelain veneers, and dentures.

6 Ways To Improve Your Smile In San Diego

Cosmetic Dental Procedures To Improve Your Smile In San Diego

Who would say no to a prettier smile? I am guessing no one, and now with all of the amazing cosmetic dentistry procedures available from San Diego, La Mesa, and San Diego cosmetic dentists, most dental patients can get the smile they want. Here is a quick look at some of the most popular treatments.

1. Teeth whitening is the most common procedure and it is used to lighten discolored teeth. This quick and easy procedure is usually done in the dentist office, and the results can be surprisingly dramatic.

2. Bonding is a popular treatment that uses a dental composite that resembles enamel. This material is applied to the surface of the teeth, sculpted into the desired shape, and then hardened and polished.

3. Tooth reshaping is a simple way to improve the appearance of teeth. If involves removing part of the enamel and can be used to fix small chips or to change the length or position of teeth.

4. Veneers are custom-made porcelain coverings that are very thin. They are bonded to the teeth and can be used to close gaps or cover discolored teeth.

5. For most La Mesa, La Mesa, and San Diego patients, dental implants are the best way to fix a missing tooth.

6. And finally, there is the complete smile makeover. A smile makeover uses a combination of the available treatments to get San Diego dental patients the smiles they want.

Teeth: What Have They Done For You Lately?

San Diego sedation dentistry

Welcome to the San Diego dental blog! Today we are going to look at the secret life of our teeth.

The shape of each tooth gives a clue to what it does. The incisors, or your front teeth, are sharp. They need to be because they are there to cut food and their curvature helps move food inside the mouth.

Behind the incisors, you find the canine teeth. Their roots go far into the jaw bone because they are designed to hold onto food and tear through it.

Premolars, found just behind the canines, are flat on the surface. This allows them to crush your food as you chew. And, finally, in the very back are the molars. They are large and have nice, flat chewing surfaces that help them to grind food down into smaller, more digestible pieces.

I’m Dr. Jeff Gray, a local La Mesa dentist, and I hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little more about the different teeth in your mouth.

Oral Ailments San Diego Dentists Can Address

Oral Ailments Your San Diego Cosmetic Dentist Can Address

Most dental patients in the San Diego and La Mesa area know that they can go to their local dentist for toothaches, cleanings, and bleeding gums (not to mention cosmetic dentistry procedures such as a smile makeover), but there are some lesser-known oral concerns that your dentist can also help you with.

Dry mouth, technically called xerostomia, is caused by a lack of saliva and can be quite uncomfortable. It also predisposes San Diego dental patients to a host of problems such as tooth decay and gum disease. There are some treatments, but a lot of La Mesa area residents experience dry mouth because of certain medications or diseases, so make sure to bring a list of current medications with you to your appointment.

Bad breath is usually a result of bacteria build-up in the mouth, and regular trips to your San Diego dentist can help you keep your mouth clean and the bacteria count within a sweet-smelling range. But, if you have good oral hygiene and regular check-ups and cleanings, then your dentist will be crucial in helping you discover the source of your halitosis.

Jaw clicking and jaw discomfort are symptoms you should have checked with your dentist immediately as they can be a signs of serious oral issues.

Hi. I’m Dr. Jeff Gray, an experienced La Mesa dentist. I want my patients to come to me with all of their oral concerns. The friendly staff here at Jeff Gray DDS would love to schedule an appointment with you and answer any questions you have about the ailments mentioned above, as well as questions about teeth whitening and dental implants. We would love to hear from you today!

At Jeff Gray DDS, You’re Treated Like Family

Laser Dentistry In San Diego

At Jeff Gray DDS, our cosmetic dentistry patients are treated like family. I am Dr. Jeff Gray and my relationship with my clients is paramount.

You know what puts a smile on my face? When I use advanced cosmetic dentistry to create a dazzling smile makeover for one of my patients.

If you are a 25 – 85 year-old San Diego resident, my staff and I at Jeff Gray DDS can guarantee you quality preventative, restorative, cosmetic and sedation dentistry care.

In today’s Jeff Gray DDS blog I would like to discuss laser dentistry. It may sound scary, but laser dentistry provides an excellent alternative to drills. Many procedures performed with lasers don’t require La Mesa patients to be medicated, allowing for quicker healing times.

Many La Mesa patients become very anxious waiting for a shot of painkiller before a dental procedure. Laser dentistry allows for a more relaxed, less stressful dental visit. My patients also appreciate not going home with a numb mouth and drool dripping down their chin.

La Mesa area residents in need of oral surgery will experience less bleeding thanks to laser dentistry. Some of the procedures that are performed with lasers are treating infected root canals, reshaping gum and bone tissues, uncovering erupted wisdom teeth, and aiding in teeth whitening.

At Jeff Gray DDS, one of our most popular procedures is sedation dentistry. We also offer dental implants, porcelain veneers, dental crowns, and Invisalign.

San Diego folks who want to experience a comfortable, relaxing dental visit and receive compassionate and professional dental care- contact Jeff Gray DDS today.

At Jeff Gray DDS we treat you like family.
