Hiccups In Your Dental Routine

Alpine cosmetic dental veneers

The most common times people stop to brush their teeth are morning and night – either before or after breakfast, after dinner, or at bedtime. Common concerns that come with this routine involve hiccups in the schedule, from family life, shift work or exhaustion.

Sometimes after dinner isn’t super cut and dried. Many San Diego families face irregular weeknight routines. As the school year progresses, some have games to attend, band concerts, play practice, youth groups or other weeknight commitments. An irregular schedule often disrupts regular dental maintenance.

Many Santee workers have daily commutes or shift work to battle with. Due to the changing landscape of La Mesa’s job market and the greater variety in shift schedules we see patients who are adjusting to irregularities in sleep patterns. This leads to exhaustion and often sleep takes priority over consistent brushing – either morning or night.

The most important time to be sure to brush is after eating sugar or carb-intensive foods. These foods kickstart bacteria growth on the teeth without vigilant attention.

Highly acidic foods weaken the enamel, so it is best to swish with water immediately after consuming acidic foods to lessen the acid. Then brush about 30 minutes later when the mouth is less acidic. The fluoride in toothpaste helps remineralize the enamel.

Dr. Jeff Gray’s hygiene staff at Jeff Gray DDS – Sedation & Cosmetic Dentistry has been assisting California families since 1986 to prevent hiccups in their dental routines. See how we demonstrate professional and educated instruction at http://www.SmileSanDiego.com/.

Jeff Gray DDS – Sedation & Cosmetic Dentistry provides more than just cosmetic dentistry or sedation dentistry. In addition to teeth whitening, dentures, Invisalign, and laser dentistry there is hygiene education, teeth whitening and cleanings to be discussed. Sure, the cost of cosmetic dentistry, dental veneers, invisalign braces and dental bridges can all seem confusing. The key is to stay on top of the important habits that you can control. We can help you make sense of the other stuff.

Regular checkups are important for catching decay, infection or other troubles early so let us make an appointment for your next preventative visit and keep those hiccups from causing permanent damage. Call us at 619-717-8560  to schedule!

Pregnancy And Oral Health In La Mesa

Pregnant In La Mesa Make Sure To Visit Your Cosmetic Dentist

In today’s Jeff Gray DDS blog we will discuss how pregnancy impacts your dental health. I am Dr. Jeff Gray and I want all California expectant mothers to realize the importance of good oral hygiene during pregnancy. Because of the changes going on in a pregnant woman’s body there are potential dental health issues that may arise.

Many La Mesa women experience morning sickness accompanied with vomiting. The gastric acid increases the acidity in the mouth which can easily lead to enamel loss and tooth decay. Heightened levels of progesterone and estrogen may relax the ligaments that support the teeth causing them to loosen.

Most La Mesa residents have experienced gingivitis, but during pregnancy the hormonal changes increase your risk for gingivitis. Without proper dental care gingivitis can lead to gum disease.

If you are a pregnant California woman my staff and I at Jeff Gray DDS recommend using a soft bristled toothbrush for daily brushing. Floss carefully and rinse your mouth with a fluoride wash. If you experience morning sickness, clean your mouth with a baking soda and water mixture.

If you are planning to become pregnant, it is a good idea to have a cleaning and exam prior to your pregnancy. If you need any dental procedures, it is a good idea to get them done as soon as possible. If you experience any dental problems during your pregnancy please call and schedule an appointment at (619) 337-7700. Untreated dental disease can effect your overall health.

At Jeff Gray DDS we not only offer excellent dental care to our pregnant clients, we provide quality preventative care and San Diego sedation dentistry for the entire family. Our La Mesa patients can expect professional cosmetic and sedation dentistry.

What Is Lurking Under Your Gumline?

Gum Disease? This Might BeThe Cause Of Your San Diego Bad Breath

Hello La Mesa residents! Your overall oral health depends not only on healthy teeth but also healthy gums. Proper oral hygiene helps keep both your teeth and gums in good shape.

When brushing, hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle with the bristle tips aimed at the line where the tooth and gum meet. The bristles of a soft toothbrush can clean the food particles in the pockets in front and in back of the tooth, but you need floss to clean between the teeth. Make sure you get the floss into the pocket between the teeth and scrape food particles up and out of the pocket.

Back to toothbrushing: if the toothbrush is not held at the correct angle, the bristles can’t get in the pockets to clean out the bacteria before it turns into enamel-damaging plaque. If plaque multiplies in the pockets around the teeth, the gum will start pulling away. Eventually, the pockets will become too deep for your toothbrush bristles to reach. Unfortunately, the tooth structure below the gumline is more susceptible to decay than the enamel above the gumline.

There is more than one way to damage your teeth – even if the visible parts of your teeth are cavity-free, gum disease can cause problems with the parts you can’t see.

I am Dr. Jeff Gray of Jeff Gray DDS. My staff and I promote preventative dentistry by working with our patients of all ages to establish essential oral hygiene habits.

If you haven’t had a check-up in a while, or are experiencing gum soreness or recession, call Jeff Gray DDS today at (619) 337-7700 to schedule a thorough tooth and gum examination in La Mesa.
During your exam, Gray Jeff will measure the depth of the pockets around each tooth. If you already have gum disease, we will help you restore gum health.

At Jeff Gray DDS in La Mesa, we provide full general and cosmetic dental services including sedation dentistry and cosmetic dentistry. If you have healthy teeth and gums but want to brighten your smile, ask us about teeth bleaching in La Mesa.

Sedation Dentistry In La Mesa For Kids And Parents

Sedation Dentistry In San Diego For Kids And Parents

At Jeff Gray DDS we know that many La Mesa children fear going to the dentist. I am Jeff Gray and my staff and I at Jeff Gray DDS want to make your child’s first visit to my La Mesa practice a positive experience. Regular dental check-ups from toddler age are an essential part of oral hygiene.

California parents can follow these guidelines to help prepare their child for a dental visit.

1. Talk about the exam with your child. Answer any questions with uncomplicated answers.
2. Don’t share your bad dental experiences with your child.
3. Don’t imply that the exam will be painful.
4. Help your child understand that this is an important part of staying healthy.
5. Don’t offer a reward for visiting the dentist.

It is important for parents to make sure they aren’t anxious about La Mesa dental visits because children can sense their stress.

At Jeff Gray DDS we have been treating children and adults since 1986. Our professional, friendly staff can calm the nerves of a fearful child and help them have a gentle dental experience.

If you or your La Mesa child has had a bad dental experience or is unable to stay calm while visiting the dentist, ask us about sedation dentistry. We want all of our patients to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible while receiving excellent dental care.

For simple dental procedures topical anesthetics are applied to the gums and other tissues reducing oral sensation. If you require more sedation, nitrous oxide and general anesthesia are safe solutions.

Jeff Gray DDS also offers complete smile makeovers which may include dental implants, teeth whitening, dental veneers, or any other cosmetic dental procedures required. All of these can be done with some type of sedation if required.

Don’t let your fears or your child’s fears keep your child from having a beautiful, healthy smile. Contact Jeff Gray DDS today!

Jeff Gray DDS Tooth Tips For Traveling

Tooth Tips From Your La Mesa Cosmetic Dentist

If you live in the San Diego area and are planning to take a vacation or business trip soon, I recommend you coordinate your dental care with your travel schedule. It’s always a good idea to have a checkup with your La Mesa cosmetic dentist prior to leaving on long vacations, especially if your trip is taking you to developing areas without good dental care options. This quick checkup will help you be sure that your mouth is ready to travel.

More importantly, if you have any dental procedures scheduled before you leave, discuss it with your La Mesa dentist. A large number of dental procedures are actually surgical procedures. This means that your body will need more time to heal than you may realize.

Also, if you’re leaving the San Diego, or La Mesa area by plane, you should be aware that changes in the cabin pressure of the airplane may cause tooth pain or discomfort for patients who have just had oral surgery. In addition, make sure you are aware of any necessary follow-up appointments with your La Mesa dentist or orthodontist before you schedule a vacation.

I’m Dr. Jeff Gray and I want San Diego residents to be informed about their dental care. My La Mesa practice offers:

sedation dentistry
cosmetic dentistry
Invisalign
dental implants
porcelain veneers

If Your Gums Are Swollen And Sore, Call Jeff Gray DDS

Cosmetic Dentistry Can Fix Your Tooth Pain In La Mesa

If you are a worried La Mesa resident experiencing inflamed gums or an aching tooth, you’re are not alone.

About one third of U.S. adults are affected by tooth decay, according to the CDC, and gum disease plagues one in seven people age 35 to 40. Don’t ignore these symptoms, call Jeff Gray DDS today at 619-717-8560 for immediate treatment.

At Jeff Gray DDS we take gum disease, sometimes called gingivitis, seriously because left untreated it can lead to loss of bone and tissue that support the teeth.

Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease. You will know you have it if your gums bleed easily and look red and swollen. If this condition is not reversed it can lead to periodontitis. With this condition your gums become loose and separate from the teeth forming cavities that can become infected. This can spread to the bone supporting the tooth. If this is damaged, the tooth can be lost. (If you have already lost a tooth to gum disease, ask us about dental implants.)

At Jeff Gray DDS we recommend daily brushing and flossing and regular dental cleanings to help combat gingivitis. Our team has been treating gum disease and other cosmetic dentistry problems for San Diego residents since 1986.

If you want your teeth to feel fresh and bright, come in for a cleaning and check-up. Don’t become a statistic, prevent gingivitis by treating your teeth and gums with the TLC they deserve. (After all, they work pretty hard for you day in and day out.)

My name is Dr. Jeff Gray and my staff and I at Jeff Gray DDS offer quality general and cosmetic dental services including sedation dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and
Invisalign.

At Jeff Gray DDS, our cosmetic dentistry patients are treated like family. I am Dr. Jeff Gray and my relationship with my clients is paramount.

You know what puts a smile on my face? When I use advanced cosmetic dentistry to create a dazzling smile makeover for one of my patients.

If you are a 25 – 85 year-old San Diego resident, my staff and I at Jeff Gray DDS can guarantee you quality preventative, restorative, cosmetic and sedation dentistry care.

In today’s Jeff Gray DDS blog I would like to discuss laser dentistry. It may sound scary, but laser dentistry provides an excellent alternative to drills. Many procedures performed with lasers don’t require La Mesa patients to be medicated, allowing for quicker healing times.

Many La Mesa patients become very anxious waiting for a shot of painkiller before a dental procedure. Laser dentistry allows for a more relaxed, less stressful dental visit. My patients also appreciate not going home with a numb mouth and drool dripping down their chin.

La Mesa area residents in need of oral surgery will experience less bleeding thanks to laser dentistry. Some of the procedures that are performed with lasers are treating infected root canals, reshaping gum and bone tissues, uncovering erupted wisdom teeth, and aiding in teeth whitening.

At Jeff Gray DDS, one of our most popular procedures is sedation dentistry. We also offer dental implants, porcelain veneers, dental crowns, and Invisalign.

San Diego folks who want to experience a comfortable, relaxing dental visit and receive compassionate and professional dental care- contact Jeff Gray DDS today.

At Jeff Gray DDS we treat you like family.
